Stage 4 Lifted but Prepare for the Weekend of August 22 thru 24

8/14/2025

At this time, the Stage 4 Drought Contingency Plan has been lifted for the City of Burton. On behalf of the City of Burton, thank you for your water conservation efforts. Water usage can return to normal for now.

We have reached yet another milestone with Water Well #5. This milestone is an important one as it involves a required TCEQ 36-hour testing period and our entire community working together on water conservation during that testing. This testing period will take place Friday, August 22 thru Sunday, August 24. More details about a start and end time will follow next week.

We want you to be informed about what this next stage will mean for you as a water customer.

Because only one water well can run at a time, Water Well #4 will be turned off for the 36-hour testing period. During that time, multiple state-required tests will be run on Water Well #5.

This testing period has been moved to a weekend to minimize the impact of the shut down to the school district as well as minimize the impact of 620 additional students and staff on our water system.

During that testing period, between Friday, August 22nd, through Sunday, August 24th, the City of Burton water system will be on EMERGENCY WATER USE ONLY. Residents will need to limit water usage to ONLY what is needed for basic daily living for those 36 hours. Only the water stored in our reserves will be available for our use during that testing period.

This entire testing period will be a "group project." Water conservation efforts from our households will allow any businesses open over the weekend to remain open and provide services to our community.

Thank you, in advance, for all that you will do to ensure we can  make it through the 36-hour water well testing period together.
